Medicin in the kitchen I.

CUMIN
How lucky that I use cumin seed in nearly all dishes!- I thought when coming across bellow news in couple of books and articles. Much cheaper and more comfortable flavoring my meals with cumin seed than taking food supplements between meals, which latter ones I always tend to forget..

First of all, the curing cumin we are discussing here is not equivalent to the black cumin which is jet black
Our cumin has a flavor unlike any other spice because it’s loaded with cuminaldehyde, a compound with super active medicinal qualities. Cumin’s volatile oil and rich content of vitamins C and A make this spice a potent antioxidant and potential cancer stopper.

WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

1. It fights Type2 Diabetes through reduced

  • cholesterol
  • triglycerides (heart-damaging blood fats common in people with diabetes),
  •  blood sugar
  •  AIC (amount of glucose attached to red blood cells, a measure of long-term blood sugar levels)
  • Inflammation in the pancreas (the organ that manufactures insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar levels)
2. Protects the bones
  •  Increases bone density in case of osteoporosis. Research showed that Cumin’s osteoprotective effect is comparable to that of the hormone estradiol. Estradiol was popular for the prevention of osteoporosis before they discovered that it also increased the risk of heart disease and breast cancer. “Cumin can help postmenopausal women from losing their bone and seems to be a potential candidate for the development of new herbal approaches for osteoporosis treatment without any serious side effects.” (Healing Meals, Aggarwal / Yost)

3. Combating Cancer

  • Prevents the formation of colon tumors
  • Reduces the risk of cervical cancer
  • Significantly decreased the incidence of stomach and liver cancer

·
4. Epilepsy (in chemically induced seizures cumin suppressed convulsions in animals)
5. Food poisoning (in case of bacterial food poisoning)

6. Tuberculosis (it boosts the infection-fighting power of rifampicin, an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis)

Method of use: whole seeds rather than ground!
Interesting: Cumin was a currency for the early Romans, who used it to pay taxes.

Curiosity, that pays back - a Swiss blogger tried the Aviva Method

aviva

Reblogged from All Things That Matter, which is full with fresh staff about natural health and happiness.

Learning about the Aviva method and your body

Have you ever had that moment in your life where you said: “that’s it, I need to do something about it”? “It” being anything that holds you back mentally, physically and spiritually.
Then you start researching, asking, contacting various people on the subject, until you get satisfied, feel secure and safe with what you have discovered.
Back in January, I blogged about the Aviva method although the post was a general one on the topic. Now I am back to it with more energy, as I have my “that’s it” moment.Having pcos is not rare, but it is something that teaches you to stay in tune with your body, reminding you that a little extra attention goes a long way. There are days that I am angry at my body for not functioning “properly” or wonder how to get out of the pcos rat-hole.
Recently, I discovered Mindfulness meditation to add to my “support” kit in dealing with or better balancing my pcos. A clear state of mind can go far beyond any set or “programmed” expectations we might feel we have to achieve. So today, here and now, I choose to see pcos as a gift. It’s a way to feel “special”, if I can say that, it’s a way to honestly and clearly make peace with my body, mind and spirit.
In the past few days, the Aviva method has SO been on my mind. Since I had the exercise booklet, I thought to give it a go. Which I did, 5.30am when I could not feel at ease from too much thinking.
I did most of the 18 exercises of the “Simple Method” and before I knew it it was 7.00 am, I was feeling happy,  sweaty, but happy and what do you know…..two days later I got a reminder that my body got the message too.
Unfortunately, Aviva instructors in Switzerland are down to zero, so I got in touch with lovely Kat over Skype. I was surprised to hear so many interesting things about the exercises and how they can help you regulate your cycle, tame your PMS and cramping, and even help you ovulate. She’s a wonderful Aviva instructor, willing to do distant teaching of the basics with me.

I conceived at the age of 42 and delivered my little son without episiotomy. (How you, your wife or your friend can do the same, read here) My recovery was quicker than after my first delivery 8 years before! The kine in the hospital found my pelvic muscles in an exceptional good shape. My dear ladies on Earth, it's worth to practice the Aviva Method!!! (May. 2012.)

Carine had chemotherapy a year before she visited my classes. She and her husband thought about having one more child, but as everybody told her, she stood no chance.  She aimed to fix her reproductive hormone levels with my classes. At one point she disappeared. I thought, yep, long holidays...Till I got her mail. "The Aviva Method is so efficient, that now I don't  know if I should attend the Aviva Prenatal classes or the Aviva 18steps, because I'm 10 months pregnant." -she wrote.
She made my day. Isn't it wonderful?

Timea (41) was diagnosed with early menopause and empty ovaries. She practiced the Aviva Basics with me twice a week. In September 2013. about a year after the diagnosis her gynecolog found a 0.8mm egg and a month later in October an other 2 smaller eggs.

Beata had two-three periods a year till she came to the Aviva Initiation in 2012 December. She was 38 then! She had strong pain after the session, visited her gynecolog, who saw that something is different, but didn't find anything abnormal. The pain ended with an unexpected period, and afterwards her cycle became normal, monthly. In August she called me that she wants to come to my Aviva prenatal classes. She's 39, she was told not being able to conceive in a natural way. Now she's pregnant.
(October 2013.)

Lengthening the cycle and put an end to the days long, light bleeding prior the period - three girls from my groups achieved this last month. One of them had always 20-24 days long cycle -till now. Her last cycles was 28 days. We can achieve this with 4 different exercises, out of which minimum one has to be practiced every day for 2 minutes. (The light bleeding is usually associated with the low level of luteinizing hormone, which is often the result of short cycle. )
I do everything to motivate the girls and encourage their perseverance, but the real credit is to them when they don't give up.
Congratulations!!!
(Sep. 2013.)

Vera with PCOS has suffered from migraines for years. We discussed her symptoms and potential allergies and agreed she would start a gluten free diet. After our Aviva Initiation in June she started to eat alkaline, stopped gluten and started the 18steps twice a week. She's had no more migraines ever since and she got her periods in the past three months. We are aiming to improve the length of her cycle now. (Aug 2013.)

Sandy (left) with PCOS has a little son now thank to the Aviva Method and Sandy's stamina. Her full story you can read on www.nonoage.com

Kinga uses step6 successfully in case of cramps on the first day of her period. (July 2013)

Crisitie was diagnosed with early menopause and she was put on drugs. After a while her gyno stopped the treatment because Cristie did not react good. Her gyno warned her that she can not expect ovulation, nor period that month. That's when she came to the Initiation which already resulted in an ovulation and 14 days later the period. We are working on making it regular. (July. 2013)

Silvi suffered from PCOS, missed her period for half year and without any seeming reason she started to gain weight. She came to learn the Aviva Method and from than on she practiced the 18steps twice a week. In july she had already her period, and managed to lose couple of kg's as well. (July 2013.)

Ila's had one week spotting before her period for a year. As soon as she started practicing  the Aviva 18steps once a week, the spotting stopped. (May 2013)

For years, after her second delivery Mari has lived with the symptoms of stress incontinence. Having learned the Aviva basic steps as well as the Aviva Incontinence exercises, she feels like a young woman again. She says if she practices the 18 steps twice a week and some of the incontinence exercises when she's got time, there are no symptoms anymore. (Apr. 2013.)

Beata had three periods a year usually. In November 2012 she's done the Aviva Initiation where she learned the basic steps and the whole lifestyle concept that all women need to know for long lasting, healthy hormone levels. She told me in April next year that from than on she had her period monthly.
(Apr. 2013.)

Ian has suffered with prostate problems for 3 years. His partners left him during this time. At the end of the third year he felt no need for finding even a sex partner anymore. Since he’s been exercising he feels confident to look for a partner again. (Jan. 2011.)

Peter has accompanied his wife to the exercises just to give support to his wife. Eventually he learnt the mens set of exercises. At the end of the training he confided -”I feel often the sexual urge , but this heat at my prostate I’ve never felt before!...” (Sep. 2010.)

Marta learnt the Aviva method to extend her short menstruation cycle. Apart from this she managed to reach something else, too. She confided on the phone happily that her husband noticed the positive difference in bed which improved the relationship. (July 2010.)

Ana had suffered with irregular menstruation since the age of 18. Her gynaecologist prescribed her birth control pills, which resulted decreased libido, and long menstruation periods accompanied by painful cramps. Taking the pill she also experienced abnormal uterine bleeding often. with 10 days long periods. Going through an unsuccessful hormone treatment, her doctors eventually recommended D&C (dilatation and curettage). This was the time when she heard about the AVIVA method. She learnt the exercises that she now practises twice a week at home. After 2 months her menstruation cycle decreased to 6 days, and it also became regular without cramps. The abnormal bleeding has not occurred anymore. (Jan. 2011.)

Judit exercised to regulate her irregular menstruation cycle. She called us happily when she lost 5 kg on the top of regular cycle for 3 months in a raw. (Feb. 2010.)

Gabi couldn’t coop with her strong menstruation cramps other than taking pain relievers. She’s done so years after years, until the medication started to affect her liver seriously. Her doctors recommended removing her womb. Then she turned to the Aviva method. She was surprised the most when she did not have cramps anymore. (Aug. 2009.)

Judith had balloon tuboplasty three times, yet she could not concieve despite of years of trying. She learnt the exercises, and after 5 months of practicing twice a week she successfully concieved. (Sep. 2010.)

As Maya has been going through menopause she’s been suffering with hot flashes and insomnia. Every night after 12PM to dawn she would turn in bed with a burning sensation in the body. Her high pulse rate gave her mortal fear. After 4 weeks of Aviva exercises she has been sleeping well again. (Jun.2010.)

Tirca, in menopause, did not mind hot flashes that much, rather the excess hair growth made her worry. That’s why she started practicing the Aviva method. Couple of months later she could notice that her hot flashes disappeared and she didn't need her tweezers anymore. (March 2010.)

Esther had galactorrhea (a condition that occurs when one or both breasts make milk or a milky discharge). Her doctors recommended surgery in her pituitary gland (located in the brain). This scared her in a great deal. She went to see a naturopathic doctor who suggested her to turn vegetarian and start practicing the Aviva method. Six months into into the excersises her level of prolactin (pituitary hormone) got back to normal, and the discharge from her breasts stop. The only thing she minds slightly is her large breasts that became somewhat smaller. (March 2010.)

Chiara passed 40 when they found an ovarian cyst. After three months the cyst was still present and her Pap smear result did not improve either, (stayed P3).Then she started exercising the Aviva Method. Hardly two months later her Pap smear went down to P2 and the cyst was not found. Now she exercises for a baby.  (March 2010.)

Angelina Jolie's Message

By Dr. Christine Horner, M.D.

Christine Horner, MD is a board certified and nationally recognized surgeon, author, professional speaker and champion for women's health. She spearheaded legislation in the 1990s that made it mandatory that insurance companies pay for breast reconstruction following mastectomy. She is the author of the book, Waking the Warrior Goddess: Dr. Christine Horner’s Program to Protect Against and Fight Breast Cancer winner of the IPPY award for the “Best Book in Medicine, Nutrition and Health.” For more information go to www.drchristinehorner.com

“On May 14, we woke to the shocking news that a young woman, an actress graced with most exceptional beauty and fame, and a mother of 6, had decided to remove her breasts. Angelina Jolie as a humanitarian has fearlessly traveled to places most of us would never go. She has now revealed she has completed another journey that none of us would embrace.

Ms. Jolie’s mother died of ovarian cancer at age 56 after fighting for her life for a heroic decade. Angelina decided to be tested for the BRCA genes—the most influential genes—that if abnormal, indicate a very high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Her tests came back positive. The doctors told her that her risk of developing breast cancer was 87%--a number too high for her to ignore. She explained her decision this way: she didn’t want her children to lose their mother too early, as she had lost hers.

Breast reconstruction—a procedure that Angie chose—can restore a woman to wholeness and often has beautiful results. I applaud her for her bravery. But as a former plastic surgeon, now an expert in breast cancer prevention and natural health, and the woman who spearheaded legislation to make it mandatory for insurance companies to pay for breast reconstruction following mastectomy, I have a more expanded message.

After my mother’s death of breast cancer in 2004, I dove into the medical literature—the collection of medical research—to see what, if anything, women could do to lower their risk. I instantly found thousands of studies that showed exactly why we have a breast cancer epidemic: everything we are doing to contribute to it and everything that we traditionally don’t do in this culture that is highly protective. The answers were all “natural.” For example foods, dietary supplements; and lifestyle choices, including how much you exercise, the hours that you sleep, your relationships, and how you handle stress all have a profound influence on your risk.  Research shows that if you adopt as many of the healthy habits as possible, your risk—even if you have the BRCA gene mutations—can be lowered by at least 50-70%.

My message is this: You have tremendous power to influence your health. A healthy diet and lifestyle not only significantly lowers your risk of breast cancer, but of most chronic diseases. Most women do not have the BRCA gene mutations—in fact, 90%-95% of us do not. If you carry the BRCA genes, you are at a higher risk, but you owe it to yourself to question the dire statistics your doctor states. Those numbers are based on women who received no education about what to avoid and what to favor. Research confirms that a few simple changes can have profound results. Empower yourself with education. Know that everything you do to support your health will greatly put the odds in your favor of living a long healthy life.”

Here, I can not miss mentioning the naked truth around  implants, that I heard from Dr Susan Kolb.  You can watch klicking here or read interviews with her as well. These implants have to be renewed in every 8 years minimum, because even the best quality  will leak forming molt in the body and causing numerous health issues. The leakage ca not be detected by ultrasound or echo...

The Industry of Cancer - about mammography

“More women are being harmed by regular mammograms than are saved by them.” Says  Johnnie Ham, MD, MBA. You can listen to the whole interview about mammography and breast cancer diagnosis here.

 The Industry of Cancer

Johnnie Ham, MD, MBA obstetrics gynecologic talks about mammography and breast cancer diagnosis.
“Breast cancer has become big business, starting with the multi-billion dollar goliath, mammography. No other medical screening has been as aggressively promoted. My passion is providing integrative primary care as an MD for hundreds of patients. I also have over 23 combined years of military experience as an OB/GYN, trauma surgeon, experimental test pilot, and master army aviator.
My training prepared me to navigate through challenging, and sometimes life threatening situations. Unfortunately, most women do not have the training I received, yet they could certainly use some of it to help navigate through the fear based methods of the breast cancer industry.
The tide of thought on mammography’s benefits is rapidly changing as evidenced by recently published studies in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Lancet Review, the British Medical Journal and the Nordic Cochrane Center; and the fact that the US Preventative Services Task Force and the Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health Care.
There is no reason why a woman shouldn’t have the option choosing between a thermography, an ultrasound, an MRI or even between a mammogram itself. My role as a doctor is to diagnose and treat, but I am also an educator. I want my patients' focus to be on prevention to improve their health and well-being. There is no evidence that mammography decreases death rate caused by cancer.
Facts and Persisting Concerns: Mammograms
More women are refusing mammograms. This is reflected in the dramatic decline of 4.3 percent in 2010. Previously, mammography use had increased annually by 1 percent between 2005 and 2009. Mammograms:
1.      Are incorrect 80 percent of the time (providing a false negative or false positive)
2.      Require repeated ionized radiation that can cause cancer  -in the new 3D version it’s even worse!
3.      Use compression, which can damage breast tissue or potentially spread cancer
4.      Are not effective for up to 50 percent of women (women with dense breasts or implants)
5.      Can lead to over-diagnosis and over-treatment of non-invasive cancers
6.      Can lead to the disturbing practice of “preventative” double mastectomies

Please understand that there are other screening options, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and you have a right to utilize those options. Also remember that in order to truly avoid breast cancer, you need to focus your attention on prevention.

A few simple, yet great options to assist in your efforts to avoid breast cancer are: making sure you are getting enough vitamin D, K2 and iodine; that you utilize lymphatic massage; use stress management techniques, exercise often, and balance your hormones naturally. It is also wise to eat a Mediterranean diet consisting of organic foods. Avoid processed and GMO foods; and toxic environments.

In my practice, I recommend breast thermography, even for young women to get a baseline, but also combine the imaging not only with a review of the findings, but more importantly, as a venue to educate women on breast health. It is far more effective to prevent breast cancer, than it is to wait until it is there and then treat it. We are all different so make sure you consult with your doctor and do your own research before utilizing any of these suggestions.

The advice I give all of my patients is to be your own health advocate, do your own research and always ask questions before agreeing to any therapy or treatment, screening and/or procedure.”
